Ackerfuchsschwanz in Wintergetreide durch Hacken regulieren Organic Eprints
Dierauer, Hansueli; Siegrist, Franziska; Weidmann, Gilles.

Advance automation technologies for sustainable agricultural production Organic Eprints
To advance the generic science of advanced automation in agriculture with a view to providing the underlying science necessary for increasing productivity, lowering inputs and reducing environmental impact. To solve the generic scientific problems associated with precision vision guidance spanning multiple drill/planter bouts. To verify our hypothesis that the proposed sensing and tracking technologies will when developed and integrated form a robust basis for crop protection based on mechanical and chemical precision-banded treatments. It is our ambition to make vision guided banded treatment the preferred technique for most post emergence crop protection operations. Objective 1. To develop generic integrated image analysis and Kalman...

Clerc, Maurice; Klaiss, Matthias; Messmer, Monika; Arncken, Christine; Dierauer, Hansueli; Hegglin, Django; Böhler, Daniel.

Two varieties of peas and two species of cereals have been tested sole and inter-cropped during three years with respect to yield and weed competition on a fruitful soil in saxony. A randomized complete block design with four replications was used. Yield of grain was highest with sole cropped spring wheat and lowest with a variety of pea. Intercropping of peas with wheat or barley did not increase total grain yield signifi-cantly compared to the pure stands of cereals. In mixed crops grain yield of pea seed was low at harvest and weed competition was only slightly enhanced. Nitrogen yield was highest with sole cropped peas.

Comb harrow: efficient weed control in cereals Organic Eprints
Apostolov, Stoylko; Kirov, P; Tihov, N.
In the beginning, weeds with shallow roots were successfully eradicated by the harrow. Others (e.g., burdock and stork’s bill) were controlled to a certain extent. The results of FAO "Bioselena" show that the application of the comb harrow had a significant impact on the yield, with an increase of 12.7 % for wheat, 16.7 % for spelt and 23.4 % for ein-korn. The weeds decreased by 51.15 %, 58.14 % and 36.37 %, respectively. Practical recommendations • Drill winter cereals in rows with an increased sowing rate of 7-10 % compared to conventional cereal crops during the most appropriate period (September 25 to October 5 for Northern Bulgaria, 5 to 15 October for Southern Bulgaria). • When the crop is in the „3-leaf“ stage, control the emerging weeds with a...

Cost-efective inter-row hoeing and band spraying systems for weed control in integrates and organic cereal production Organic Eprints
Background Early in a season the crop covers only part of total field area. Treating that area uniformly can therefore be wasteful. An ability to differentiate between crop rows and inter-row spaces would provide opportunities for increased treatment efficacy, reduced environmental impact and reduced input costs. Banded treatments on, or between crop rows, requires a level of precision that is difficult to achieve in practice. So, despite the potential advantages inter-row cultivation and band spraying are limited to use in high value crops. Recent advances pioneered by some of the consortium partners now offer automatic guidance systems for inter-row cultivation. These are currently used in intensive vegetable production and by those growing cereals...

Cover Crop Productivity in Contrasting Growing Conditions and Influence on the Subsequent Crop Organic Eprints
Wendling, Marina; Büchi, Lucie; Jeangros, Bernard; Walter, Achim; Charles, Raphael.
In arable systems, cover crops provide multiple ecosystem services involved in soil protection and fertility. They can efficiently compete against weeds, control erosion or recycle nutrients. The supply of these services is however largely dependent on cover crop growth as most of the services are related to biomass production. The choice of a cover crop adapted to the growing conditions is thus essential. Growing mixtures instead of sole crops is expected to be a way to overcome variable growing conditions and to insure high biomass production.Different field trials have been conducted from 2013 to 2016 in Nyon, Switzerland to assess cover crop biomass production and stability, and their influence on the following crop. Indian mustard, field pea, black...

Direct Sowing of Maize Organic Eprints
Alföldi, Thomas; Böhler, Daniel; Dierauer, Hansueli; Hegglin, Django; Böhler, Josef; Breiter, Hanspeter.
In organic farming, the plough is generally used in maize cultivation because it provides a simple way to control weed. Unfortunately, regarding soil erosion, compaction and runoff, ploughing is especially harmful in maize cultivation. Direct sowing of maize could largely solve these problems. The video presents the technique of direct sowing of maize, for example in a field of rolled field pea. In the last years, FiBL tests have shown that under optimal conditions, the direct sowing of maize in organic farming is possible without significant yield losses.

Effect of Elymus repens on yield of winter wheat, spring barley and faba bean in an organic crop rotation experiment Organic Eprints
Rasmussen, Ilse A.; Sønderskov, Mette; Damgaard, Christian; Kristensen, Kristian.
The impact of crop rotation, nutrient levels and use of catch crops on effect of E. repens on a sandy soil at Jyndevad on yield of winter wheat (2006), spring barley (2007-2008) and faba bean (2006-2008) was studied in an existing organic crop rotation experiment (Olesen et al., 2000; Rasmussen et al., 2006). Some of the objectives were to determine the yield loss at different levels of infestation of the weed, and to determine whether this relationship was influenced by the treatments. For all crops, the treatments had a high impact on the yield. The two treatments that had no manure applied for up to 12 years consistently had the lowest yields. In spring barley, the two treatments with manure and with catch crops consistently had the highest yields. In...

Einsatz von Strohmulch zur Unkrautregulierung bei Sojabohnen Organic Eprints
Froschmeir, S.; Reents, Hans Jürgen; Jobst, Florian; Urbatzka, Peer.
There is a problem with water erosion in organic growing of soybeans. A possible solution is growing under a mulch layer or cover crop. While this is usual practice in parts of the US, there is little success in Germany. A new approach is the use of straw material as a mulch to prevent erosion and suppress weed. The interrelation between weeds, soybean growth, yield and crude protein content was determined in a field experiment. There were significant differences in weed covering and weed species as well as in the yield between variants with straw mulch and without. The weed density was highest in the variant without any treatment (21.0 % of surface) and lower in the variants with straw mulch (12.7 %). The highest yield was in the control variant (15.8...
